New HAVEN, Conn. - From May 15-17, the Bulldogs competed at the IC4A Championships, hosted by Princeton, and had a number of impressive performances. Among nearly one hundred NCAA Division-I schools, Yale tied for 37th with 6 points. Among the highlights of the weekend for Yale were performances by two seniors: Jeffrey Lachman earned All-East honors in the discus throw, while Murat Kayali qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships in the 1,500-meter run.

On the first day of competition, Lachman placed third in the discus throw with a distance of 53.63 meters (175'11"). Not only was this good for All-East honors, but it was also a Regional-qualifying mark. Lachman has met this mark multiple times this season, and will compete at the Regional meet later this week, with the goal of qualifying for the NCAA National Championships in June.

On Saturday, Kayali blazed to an NCAA Regional-qualifying time of 3:47.36 in a preliminary heat of the 1,500-meter run, which was a personal best in the event, and also good enough to qualify for the final. In Sunday's final, the race went out slower, but Kayali still finished strong, placing just out of All-East recognition in ninth with a time of 3:53.86.

Fellow senior Jake Gallagher just missed qualifying for the final and earning an NCAA-qualifying time in the 1,500-meter run, finishing fifteenth overall by time in 3:48.55.

Another close call was in the 4x100-meter relay: the team of sophomore Marty Evans, junior Reynolds Holmes, sophomore Chris Stanley, and senior Brandon Giles finished 13th in the prelims with a time of 41.74, missing finals by less than three tenths of a second.

This coming weekend, a select squad of the Yale men who have met the set performance standards will travel to Greensboro, N.C. to compete at the NCAA Eastern Regional Championships.
