First Day of NCAA Regionals

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Elis ended the first day of competition without points. Virginia Tech currently leads the meet with 33 points. Kevin Alexander, who was ranked fourth in the region in the 400-meter dash prior to this meet, qualified for finals with a time of 46.60. This puts him at seventh going into finals.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Victor Cheng, Alexander, Dan O'Brien and Russell Kempf ended up 14th with a time of 41.61, far from their season best of 40.92. Shomari Taylor was also unsuccessful in qualifying for finals with his time of 53.75 (24th) after getting knocked out of rhythm by the fifth hurdle.

Kevin Hickenbottom will be throwing the javelin on Saturday. Joining him in their respective events will be John Langhauser (shot put), Jihad Beauchman (high jump) and Alexander.
