Elis Compete at NCAA Regionals

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Elis are competing this weekend at North Carolina A&T in the 2006 NCAA East Regional Track and Field Championship. Yale was tied for 25th last year with eight points earned by Lucas Meyer (3,000-meter steeplechase) and Jihad Beauchman (high jump).

A number of outstanding athletes will be representing Yale at the meet and following is a recap of a few of their achievements to date:

Kevin Alexander (400m, 4x100), Sr., Birmingham, AL
· Possibly the best walk-on in the United States
· 2nd at Heptagonals with a PR of 46.26
· 46.26 is second all-time on Yale's 400m list, just behind Olympian Wendell Mottley, who ran 45.2 in 1964
· 2nd leg of 4x100, winning Heps two years in a row, time of 40.92 is fourth fastest in school history
· Anchor of 4x400, winning Heps, Kevin split 45.8, their time of 3:10.84 was second fastest in school history

Jihad Beauchman (High Jump), Sr., San Jose, CA
· Yale record holder in the high jump (outdoors) at 2.13 meters (2nd at Heps)
· Yale record holder in the high jump (indoors) at 2.09 meters
· Yale record holder in the triple jump (indoors) at 15.35 meters
· 2nd all-time in the triple jump at Yale (outdoors) with a mark of 15.24 meters
· 3rd leg of 4x400 at Heps, where Yale won with a time of 3:10.84, second fastest in school history
· 6th at regionals in the high jump last year

Victor Cheng (4x100), So., Seattle, WA
· Lead-off leg of 4x100, winning Heps two years in a row, time of 40.92 is fourth fastest in school history
· 2nd at Heps in the 100
· 15th all-time at Yale in the 100 (10.77)
· 3rd at indoor Heps in the 60, time of 6.93 is 8th all-time at Yale


Kevin Hickenbottom (Javelin), Fr., Seattle, WA

· Played football in the fall and joined the track team for second semester
· 11th all-time in the javelin (61.97 meters) at Yale


Russ Kempf (4x100), Jr., Clemmons, NC

· Anchor of 4x100, winning Heps two years in a row, time of 40.92 is fourth fastest in school history
· Lead-off of 4x400 at Heps, where Yale won with a time of 3:10.84, second fastest in school history
· 9th all-time at Yale in the 60 (6.98)
· 5th all-time at Yale in the 100 (10.71)
· 15th all-time at Yale in the 200 (21.58)


John Langhauser (Shot Put), Jr., Basking Ridge, NJ

· Breakout junior season
· Outdoor Heps shot put champion
· 2nd indoors
· 4th all-time at Yale with a distance of 16.77 meters (indoors)
· 4th all-time at Yale with a distance of 17.02 meters (outdoors)


Dan O'Brien (4x100), So., Providence, RI

· Barely missed regional qualifier in 110m hurdles with a 14.31 (7th all-time)
· 3rd leg of championship 4x100 for 2006 Heps, time of 40.92 is fourth fastest
· 2nd leg of 4x400 at Heps, where Yale won with a time of 3:10.84, second fastest in school history


Shomari Taylor (400m Hurdles), Sr., Baltimore, MD

· 6th all-time at Yale in the 400m hurdles (52.22)
· 16th at regionals last year
