Meyer Caps Career With Seventh-Place Finish at USA Track and Field Championships

June 25, 2005

Los Angeles - Lucas Meyer (Ridgefield, Conn.) concluded his Yale career in stellar fashion Saturday night, taking seventh place in the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Meyer finished in 8:38.30, just behind his own school-record time of 8:36.39. Daniel Lincoln of Nike, the 2004 Olympic Trials champion, won with a stadium-record time of 8:17.27.

Coming in as the No. 12 seed, Meyer made it through Thursday's qualifier with a time of 8:40.26, the 10th-best time. That made him one of only eight collegians among the field of 14 that started Saturday's race.

Meyer, an All-American following his 12th-place finish at NCAAs earlier this month, was named also named Academic All-America earlier in the week.

The meet, held at the Home Depot Center, hosted more than 1,000 athletes as they competed for the right to represent Team USA at the 2005 IAAF World Championships in Athletics August 6-14 in Helsinki, Finland.
