Perrella Receives Men's Cross Country Award
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Nathan Richards was elected by his teammates as captain for next year at the Bulldogs' annual cross country banquet on Tuesday. Senior Jeff Perrella also received the Mike Stanley-John Cleary Class of 1954 Men's Cross Country Award for the second year in a row.
Richards consistently ran in the Bulldogs' top seven this past season and has played a key role in post-season, coming in seventh for the team at Heptagonals Championships and third at NCAA Regionals. On the track, Richards has also excelled in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, scoring at outdoor Heptagonals last season and qualifying for IC4As last spring. Richards is a biology major in Timothy Dwight College.
Perrella received the Mike Stanley-John Cleary Class of 1954 Men's Cross Country Award, given to "the outstanding member of the Yale men's cross country team who excels in Dedication, Commitment, and Inspiration to the sport of cross country." Since transferring from the College of William and Mary to Yale in 2007, Perrella has made a huge impact on the Bulldogs. This season, Perrella earned both All-Ivy and All-East honors this and became the first Bulldog to qualify for the NCAA National Championships since 2004. Perrella is an Economics major in Saybrook College.
Richards and the rest of the Bulldogs will be back on the track at the College Invitational on Jan. 15 at Coxe Cage.
