Bulldogs to Compete in Paul Short Invitational
Large Field Includes All Eight Ivies
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The men's cross country team will compete in the Paul Short Invitational on Friday, hosted by Lehigh University. 44 other teams will race in the Bulldogs' division, including the rest of the Ancient Eight. The team will get a chance to see how it stacks up against the rest of the Ivy League, a few weeks before the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships in October.
Many nationally ranked squads will be present at the meet, ensuring intense competition. Oklahoma (4th), Princeton (12th), Syracuse (15th), Providence (17th), Villanova (18th), Virginia (19th) and Georgetown (22nd) will make the day a tough one.
Yale's harriers will rise to the challenge. Senior Sam Lynch, senior Conor Dooney, junior Demetri Goutos and junior Sam Kirtner have finished in the top four slots in each of the past two meets, with juniors Kevin Lunn and Matthew Thwaites each placing fifth once. The team has also had strong showings from sophomore Ryan Laemel, senior captain Nathan Richards and sophomore Miles Richardson. The team is currently ranked 11th in the Northeast region, a step up from their 12th-place ranking last week.
The men's 8k will begin at 11:00 a.m. on a day that will contain 14 races across three levels (college, high school, and open). The meet website has more information and will have results, as will www.yalebulldogs.com, when they are available.
