Sophomore Finished 11th at Northeast Regional

NEW YORK, NY—Just two weeks after being named to the All-Ivy second team following his eighth-place finish at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships (Heps), Yale men's cross country team sophomore Kevin Dooney earned All-Region honors with his 11th-place showing at the NCAA Division I Northeast Regional Championships. All-Region honors are reserved for the 450 male and female athletes each season who place in the top 25 at the nine different regional championships.

With his time of 30:28.4 in the 10K race at Regionals, Dooney was not only the first Bulldog to cross the finish line for his fourth consecutive race, but he also likely earned an automatic individual bid to the Division I NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., on Nov. 23, although such bids will not be officially announced until Saturday, Nov. 16. Assuming he does qualify for the NCAA Championships, Dooney would be the first Eli to earn a bid since 2010 and just the second since 2004.

After putting together an impressive freshman campaign last season (including being one of only two freshman Elis to break the 25:00 mark in the 8K), Dooney exploded onto the scene this year—especially in the second half of the season. He followed up an eighth-place finish at the Harvard-Yale season opener with a fifth-place team finish at the Iona Meet of Champions before placing first on the team at the Paul Short Invitational, Pre-National Invitational and Heps—setting personal records at each race. Dooney's incredible race at Regionals was simply the latest addition to his already impressive cross country resume.

Following his probable trip to the NCAA Championships, Dooney also figures to be a huge long-distance threat during the track and field season. As a freshman, Dooney ran the fifth-fastest outdoor 10,000-meter race in Yale history.
