The men's cross country team was resting its best runners for the upcoming NCAA meet but managed to finish 20th with 533 points at the 2005 New England Cross Country Championships at Boston's Franklin Park.

The Eli representation at the NE meet included one senior, one junior and the rest were newcomers. They did not run anyone in top 10 in a very wet race, preferring to rest them for the upcoming NCAA pre-national event.

"By resting our top 10, it provided an opportunity for younger kids to get varsity-level experience," said Yale head coach Dan Ireland. "We got a solid effort in tough conditions."

Freshman Murat Kayali was Yale's top finisher with time of 26:47 (82nd) over the 4.95-mile course. He was followed by junior Nathan Clute (26:53, 93rd) and sophomore Eric Kerchberger (26:58, 104th).
