Kate McCrae

Assistant Coach

Kate McCrae begins her first season as an assistant coach with the Bulldogs. She assists with post player development and coordinates the team's film exchange. McCrae comes to Yale after a year spent working with Special Olympics Canada, where she was the National Program Coordinator including Coach Development and Long Term Athlete Development. In that role, she helped guarantee opportunities for intellectually disabled athletes within all aspects of the Canadian sport system. Prior to her time with Special Olympics Canada, McCrae spent a year in Northern Ireland with Peace Players International (formerly Playing for Peace). She was in charge of basketball operations for the Craigavon Area Basketball Club, and served as head coach of the club's under-12 and under-19 teams. She also worked in the areas of fundraising, sponsorship, donor solicitation, event planning and tournament management, as well as coordinating the organization's community outreach efforts. McCrae is a 2005 graduate of the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ont., where she served as the Warriors' captain for three seasons. In 2005, she received the Ontario University Athletic Conference Joy Bellinger Award for combining academics, athletics and citizenship with a focus on community mindedness and the advancement of university athletics. She also received the University of Waterloo's Outstanding Graduating Senior Award and the Directors Award in 2005. A native of Waterloo, Ont., McCrae currently resides in New Haven.
