Bobcats Turn Away Bulldogs 62-47

Jan. 4, 2006
HAMDEN, CONN. - Four Bobcats scored in double figures, led by Erin Kerner's 16, to key Quinnipiac to a 62-47 win over Yale in non-conference action on Wednesday night. Yale's freshman duo of Kaitlyn Lillemoe (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Jamie Van Horne (Healdsburg, Calif.) both scored nine points and junior Julie Mantilla (Arlington Heights, Ill.) tied a school record with five blocks in the loss.
Quinnipiac got on the board first, scoring the first six points of a game. Van Horne hit a three to cut the lead in half at the 15:45 mark, but the Bobcats quickly built the lead up to 7.
Yale got to within four at the 13:03 mark on an Erica Davis (Columbus, N.J.) lay-in, but Quinnipiac wouldn't let the Bulldogs get any closer for the duration, using a 13-4 run to create some breathing room. The Bobcats took a 15 point lead into the locker room.
The Bulldogs were unable to recover from their rough first half and Quinnipiac rode the 15 point cushion until the final horn.
Mantilla's five blocks tied a record she shares with Davis. Both have now turned the trick twice in their careers.
The loss drops Yale to 1-11 on the season while Quinnipiac improves to 6-4 on the year. The Bulldogs return to action on Monday, Jan. 10 when they host Fordham at 7:00 pm in Lee Amphitheater.
