Bulldogs Fall at Brown 67-52

Jan. 20, 2006

Box Score

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Captain Chinenye Okafor (Rolla, Mo.) scored a team-high 16 points and junior Erica Davis (Columbus, N.J.) chipped in 12 more with eight rebounds, but their efforts weren't enough to contain the hot shooting Sarah Hayes who finished with a game-high 24 points on 9 of 12 shooting from the floor for Brown who won 67-52. Davis also picked up her 100th career block in the contest.

Brown started the game hot, scoring the first 10 points of the contest. Hayes led the charge with a four of her 18 first half points. Yale finally broke onto the scoreboard at the 15:10 mark when Okafor was able to finish after a nice move in the lane.

Yale was able to get within six at 16-10 after a pair of Ashley Easley (Joliet, Ill.) free throws, but the Bears responded to the Bulldogs push by finishing the half on a 13-5 run. Brown held Yale without a field goal for the final 7:06 to take a 33-15 lead into the locker room.

The Bulldogs came out with renewed vigor in the second half, nearly tripling their first half scoring output, but Brown was able to match them stride-for-stride, never letting Yale get within striking distance. A Kaitlyn Lillemoe (Minnetonka, Minn.) lay up after stealing a long inbounds pass got Yale to within 13, but Brown would let them no closer eventually winning 67-52.

The loss drops Yale to 1-14 (0-2 Ivy) on the season, while Brown improves to 7-7 (2-0). The Bulldogs continue a three-game road trip next weekend taking on both Harvard and Dartmouth on consecutive nights starting on Jan. 27.
