Bulldogs Can't Hold Off Lions, Fall 51-41

Feb. 10, 2006
NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Erica Davis (Columbus, N.J.) scored a team-high 15 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to overcome a feisty Columbia squad who came back from a 10 point first half deficit. Megan Griffith scored a game-high 20 to lead Columbia.
Yale ran out to an early 11-2 lead thanks to a 9-0 run punctuated by a Kaitlyn Lillemoe (Minnetonka, Minn.) trey. Yale would continue their strong first half play early, building their largest lead of the game at 17-7 after a pair of Chinenye Okafor free throws (Rolla, Mo.).
Columbia then battled for the rest of the half, eventually working the lead down to a managable 7 points at 31-24 entering the break.
The Lions set out quickly in the second stanza, tying the game at 31-31 at the 16:48 mark on a Griffith lay up. From there the team's would trade the lead until the Lions began to pull away at the six minute mark.
With the score tied at 39-39 the Lions proceeded to go on a seven point run to effectively put the game out of reach. Yale would try to mount a late rally, but the effort fell short as Columbia hit their free throws to ice the contest 51-41.
The loss drops Yale to 2-18 (1-6 Ivy) while Columbia improves to 5-15 (1-6 Ivy).
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday night, when they travel to Cornell. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
