Big Green Holds Off Bulldogs 64-51

Feb. 17, 2006
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Dartmouth had four players finish in double-figures, including a game-high 15 from Ashley Taylor, en route to a 64-51 win over Yale on Friday night in Lee Amphitheater. Junior Chinenye Okafor (Rolla, Mo.) and Jamie Van Horne (Healdsburg, Calif.) both scored 12 points a piece for Yale, but it wasn't enough for the Bulldogs to overcome a 12 point first-half deficit.
The game started off slowly, with neither squad putting points on the board until Krista Perry hit a lay up for the Big Green at the 16:19 mark. Yale tied it up quickly on an Okafor lay in, but the Big Green then went on a 12-0 run over the next three minutes to quickly establish a double-digit cushion at 14-2. The 12 point lead was Dartmouth's largest of the half.
The Bulldogs then set to work at chipping away. Yale used a 10-2 run, fueled by treys from Van Horne and Kaitlyn Lillemoe (Minnetonka, Minn.), to get to within three points at 22-19 with just under seven minutes in the half. Dartmouth, however, responded by scoring nine of the final 11 points of the half to go into the locker room with a 32-21 lead.
Yale started the second half quickly slashing the lead down to seven after Van Horne canned another trey. She finished the game four of six from beyond the arc. Dartmouth once again sensed their lead was in danger and quickly put up seven points to build the lead to 14 at 43-29.
The Big Green kept the Bulldogs at an arm's length for most of duration, with Yale making one last push to get as close as nine with 2:49 left, but they could get no closer as Dartmouth held on for a 64-51 victory.
Yale drops to 2-20 on the season and 1-8 in the Ivy League. Dartmouth improves to 17-4 are remains a perfect 8-0 in Ivy play.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday night, hosting the rival Crimson of Harvard at 7:00 p.m.
