Bulldogs Can't Shake Quakers; Lose 65-48

March 3, 2006
PHILADELPHIA, PA. -- Penn guard Joey Rhoads led all players with 18 points, including shooting a perfect 10 of 10 from the charity stripe, to give the Penn Quakers a 65-48 win over Yale on Friday night in the Palestra. Yale was led by Sara McCollum (Old Lyme, Conn.) and Chinenye Okafor (Rolla, Mo.), who finished with 12 points a piece. Okafor also grabbed 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.
Yale never led in the contest, but remained close throughout the first half. After an early 2-2 tie, the Bulldogs fluctuated between being as close as two point, to as far back as nine in the first half.
Despite the volatility, Yale got a basket from Jamie Van Horne (Healdsburg, Calif.) with time winding down in the half to go into the locker room down only four at 32-28.
Yale kept Penn within reach during the opening minutes of the second half and were down only three with 13:48 remaining, but the Quakers then went on a 9-2 run to give themselves some breathing room at 46-36 with just over 10 minutes left.
From there the Quakers never looked back, burying the Bulldogs en route to the 65-48 win.
Yale falls to 3-23 (2-11 Ivy) while Penn improves to 5-20 (3-10 Ivy).
The Bulldogs finish the 2005-06 season on Saturday night in Princeton agasint the Tigers. Tip off is set for 7:00 p.m.
