Terriers Hold Off Bulldogs, 53-41

Dec. 29, 2005
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. -- Terrier guard Katie Meinhardt scored a game-high 17 points on 7-12 shooting from the floor to lead Boston University to a 53-41 victory over Yale in the consolation game of the Marriott Cavalier Classic on Thursday evening. Sara McCollum (Old Lyme, Conn.) led the Bulldogs with 9 points, all in the second half, and pulled down a game-high 8 boards in the loss.
The Terriers started the game by scoring the first six points, but Yale cut it to within one on five consecutive points from freshman Kaitlyn Lillemoe (Minnetonka, Minn.). The Bulldogs, however, would struggle from the floor for duration of the half, scoring just five more points, all from the charity stripe.
Trailing 30-10 at the break, the Bulldogs came out with a purpose in the second stanza, using a 9-1 run in the early goings to cut the lead to 12 35-23 with just under 14 minutes left. Boston University quickly called a time out to regroup. The move payed immediate dividends as B.U. put up a quick five points to build the lead back to 17.
Yale tried in vein to force their way back into the game at that point, but the deficit was too large and the Boston University matched them shot for shot. The Bulldogs scored the last seven points of the game to get to the final tally of 53-41.
The loss drops Yale to 0-10 on the season while B.U. improves to 7-4. The Bulldogs return to action on Jan. 2, playing hosts to Lehigh. Tip-off is at 7:00 p.m.
