Yale Announces Early Action Class of 2011

Jan. 25, 2007

NEW HAVEN, Conn.--Chris Gobrecht, the Joel E. Smilow, Class of 1954 Head Coach of Women's Basketball, announced today the team's early action Class of 2011. Three players--Madeline Gobrecht (New Haven, Conn.), Yosepha "Yo Yo" Greenfield (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Lindsey Williams (Naperville, Ill.) will join the Bulldogs as freshmen in the 2007-08 season.

"Madeline, Yo Yo, and Lindsey are great fits for both Yale and our style of play," Chris Gobrecht said. "We believe they can bring consistent success to our women's basketball program."

Madeline Gobrecht, Chris Gobrecht's daughter, is a six-foot-two forward at Hamden Hall, the same school that produced current Yale men's star Casey Hughes. She is Hamden Hall's all-time leading scorer and is averaging 16.7 points, six rebounds, three assists and 2.6 steals per game this season. Gobrecht is one of the nominees from Connecticut for the McDonald's All-America Team. She was an all-league selection and a New England Class C all-star in 2005-06.

Greenfield, a five-foot-five point guard, is averaging 12.8 points and two steals per game at Harvard-Westlake High School. An all-league and All-CIF selection, she was named All-American by Adidas and Street and Smith. Street and Smith listed her among the top recruits in the west in the magazine's annual college basketball preview.

A six-foot-one forward, Williams averages 13.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game for Hinsdale Central High School, the 10th-ranked team in the state of Illinois. As a junior at Westlake High School in Westlake Village, Calif., she averaged a double-double (20.2 points, 10.2 rebounds). Williams has more than 1,600 career points at Westlake and Hinsdale Central, and was the top scorer in Ventura County during the 2005-06 season (551 points). A two-time All-League selection at Westlake, Williams was named all-county by the Ventura County Basketball Coaches Association and the Ventura County Star last season.

"All three of these players are versatile, athletic and intelligent," Chris Gobrecht said. "Still, the best part may be the special teammates they have all proven to be."

They join a Yale squad that will lose only two players to graduation. The 2006-07 Bulldogs are 8-8 and return home this weekend for matchups with Harvard and Dartmouth.
