Bulldogs Fall at Dartmouth 77-60

Jan. 29, 2006

HANOVER, NH - Freshman Jamie Van Horne (Healdsburg, CA) tied a career-high with 17 points and sophomore Sara McCollum (Old Lyme, CT) chipped in 12 more, but the inside-out combination wasn't enough to overcome five Big Green players scoring in double-figures to lead Dartmouth past Yale 77-60 in Ivy League action Saturday night at Leede Arena.

Yale hung with the Big Green during the early goings of the first half. After trailing by as many as six points in the opening minutes, the Bulldogs cut the lead to one on multiple occasions, the last coming on a Kaitlin Emmerling (Lakewood, CO) jumper at the 8:19 mark to make the score 18-17. Dartmouth then went on a 13-0 run over the next four minutes, punctuated by two of Angie Soriaga's 17 points.

The Bulldogs called a timeout, but were unable to stem the tide, as Dartmouth rolled into the locker room with a 40-20 advantage.

The Blue came out with a renewed spirit in the second stanza, but it was too little too late. Several Bulldogs had strong showings in the half, led by 11 of Van Horne's 17 points and a career-high 7 from Emily St. Jean (Danville, CA). Senior Cassandra Harris (Newbury Park, CA) also had a strong showing, picking up four points and four rebounds in only 10 minutes.

Despite their efforts Dartmouth was rarely tested, holding on for a 77-60 win.

Yale drops to 1-16 (0-4 Ivy) on the season while Dartmouth improves to 12-4 (3-0 Ivy).

The Bulldogs return to action on Friday, Feb. 3 when they host Princeton. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
