Davis Sets Pair of Block Records

Feb. 9, 2005
New Haven, Conn. - In less than two seasons, Erica Davis has done what no other Yale women's basketball player could do in four.
With her third block in Friday's game against Columbia, Davis recorded the 78th blocked shot of her career, breaking Yale's career record of 77, set by Katy Grubbs '99. With her third block in Saturday's win over Cornell, she broke her own single-season mark of 40 blocks, set last season.
The Columbus, N.J., native leads the Ivy League and ranks 39th in NCAA Division I with 2.21 blocks per game. She has twice this season matched the Yale single-game record with five blocks in a game, at New Hampshire and at home against Delaware State.
Davis, a 6-3 sophomore center, also leads Yale in scoring (12.4 points per game, seventh in the Ivy League), rebounding (6.6 per game, fifth) and steals (1.68 per game, tied for ninth). She holds the school single-game scoring record with 36 points in a win last season against Lafayette.
Behind 24 points and four blocks from Davis, the Bulldogs defeated Cornell 68-49 on Saturday to improve to 4-15, 1-5 in the Ivy League.
