Yale Defeats German Champions

June 1, 2007
WASSERBURG, Germany--The basketball portion of Yale's 10-day tour of Germany got underway successfully on Friday afternoon, as the Bulldogs dismantled German champion TSV Wasserburg by a score of 74-39. Melissa Colborne led all scorers with 16 points.
The Bulldogs never trailed in the game, scoring 28 points in the first quarter. Yale had a 45-27 edge at the break, then held Wasserburg to just 12 total points in the second half. Wasserburg's team was severely undersized, and the Bulldogs took full advantage. As a team, the Bulldogs pulled down 69 rebounds in the contest. Haywood Wright had 15 boards, while Colborne added nine and Sara McCollum pulled down eight.
Colborne was the only double-figure scorer in the game, but 11 of the 14 Bulldogs contributed at least four points. Yale played great all-around, dishing out 19 assists and collecting 14 steals and nine blocks. The Bulldogs did have some trouble adjusting to some of the international rules, however, as Yale's forwards were called for numerous three-second violations in the wider trapezoid lane.
Yale's next game is Saturday night in Bad Reichenhall against the Bavarian All-Stars.
