NEW HAVEN, Conn.- Junior forward Melissa Colborne has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week after leading the Yale women's basketball team with 18.0 points per game in three games this past week. Colborne also averaged 4.7 rebounds in her 29.0 minutes of action, shooting 17-fo-35 (.486) from the field and 20-for-24 (.833) from the free throw line.
Against Bucknell on Tuesday, she notched a team-high 16 points and hauled in five rebounds, including three on the offensive glass. Colborne also had two assists and a blocked shot. In the Bulldogs' 65-61 upset victory over North Carolina State at the Subway Classic in Minneapolis on Saturday, Colborne led all scorers with 19 points, shooting 6-for-11 from the floor and 7-for-10 from the foul line and once again grabbing five rebounds. In the Subway Classic championship game vs. the host Golden Gophers, she had a game-high 19 points, shooting 6-for-12 from the field and connecting on seven of her eight free throw attempts, with four assists. Colborne and teammate Haywood Wright were selected to the Subway Classic All-Tournament Team for their performances against the Wolfpack and Gophers.
Colborne and the Bulldogs are back in action this weekend at the Courtyard LaGuardia Turkey Classic hosted by Long Island University. Yale plays Southeastern Conference opponent Kentucky on Friday, Nov. 28 at 4 p.m., and will challenge either New Hampshire or the host Blackbirds on Saturday (time TBA).
