Four Team Awards Also Presented

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Kathleen O'Keefe, who helped Yale's second varsity win a silver medal at the Eastern Sprints this spring, has been elected captain of the 2011-12 Yale women's crew.

"I'm honored and humbled to be elected captain and excited about the opportunity to lead a group of such hard working athletes," O'Keefe said. "I believe we have a strong and close-knit senior class that is ready to step into a leadership position and put our wide array of experiences to use. After a season of unexpected twists and turns, and not finishing as strongly as we would have liked at the NCAA championship, I think this team is ready to take our training to the next level."

O'Keefe, a Washington, D.C., native has won a medal at Eastern Sprints in each of her three years with the Bulldogs. As a freshman she was part of the novice eight that finished first, and as a sophomore she was in the second varsity that placed third. She also has sat in the second varsity at the NCAA Championships in each of the last two years.

Four team awards also were presented. Freshmen Maddie Lips was the recipient of the Chris Ernst Award. Senior Stephanie Madner received both the Jenny Kiesling and Nat Case Awards, and the Anne Warner Award was presented to Catherine McDermott.
