Yale Kicks Off Season On Mar. 24 Against Columbia And Penn

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's crew will start the season ranked seventh in the nation, according to the CRCA/US Rowing preseason poll. By the end of the regular season in late April, the Bulldogs will certainly have a good idea of the accuracy of the preseason prognosticators.

"We have a great schedule where we race eight of the top 20 teams over six race weekends," said head coach Will Porter, who begins his 13th season at the helm.

The 2012 season kicks off on Mar. 24 against Columbia and Penn in New York City. The Bulldogs will then face No. 9 Michigan and No. 13 Ohio State on Mar. 31, No. 17 Dartmouth and No. 15 Cornell on Apr. 7, No. 3 Princeton and No. 6 Southern California on Apr. 14, No. 12 Radcliffe on Apr. 21 and No. 4 Brown on Apr. 28.

"This is always a great time of year. Racing has not started yet and everyone is undefeated and full of hope," Porter said. "Everyone thinks they are fast and this will be the year. We are just trying to get in the mix and see where it takes us. I am excited to see how fast we are."

Virginia received 15 of 25 first-place votes and is ranked first in the national poll followed by California.

The Bulldogs will be seeking their 11th straight appearance in the NCAA Championship, which will be May 24-26 in New Jersey. Yale placed 11th last year.
