Hastings Elected 2012-13 Captain

Helped Varsity Eight To Fourth-Place Finish At Ivy League Championship

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Eliza Hastings, who sat in the No. 2 seat for the Yale varsity eight at the NCAA Championship, has been elected captain of the 2012-13 Yale women's crew.

"I am honored to have been elected captain by a group of people that I have so much respect for," said Hastings, a Berwyn, Pa., native. "I'm excited to take on this big responsibility and for the opportunity to lead such hardworking and dedicated athletes. I intend to keep building off of the successes of this year and to be ready for any new challenges that may lie ahead."

Hastings helped Yale's varsity eight to a sixth-place finish in the petite final at the NCAA Championship after a fourth-place finish at the Ivy League championship. As a sophomore in 2010-11, Hastings split time between the varsity eight and second varsity. At Eastern Sprints, she helped the varsity eight to a fourth-place finish. In her freshman year, she helped the second varsity to a bronze medal at Eastern Sprints.

Hastings inherits the captaincy from Kathleen O'Keefe.

"Kathleen brought this team what it needed after a tough year," Hastings said. "She helped turn the tide this year, and I will continue to push onward and upward. Right now is an extremely exciting time to be a part of Yale women's crew, and I can't wait to get started."

The Bulldogs finished 10th at the NCAA Championship this spring. It was the 10th time in the last 11 years that Yale has placed in the top-10 in the nation.
