Strong Showing For Bulldogs At Under-23 World Championships
The Yale contingent at 2013 Under-23 World Rowing Championships in Linz, Austria, all turned in fine performances for U.S. Rowing. Rising senior Maddie Lips was 11th in the single scull, an improvement from her 15th-place finish last year. Rising senior Kim Szokol sat in the two seat of the women’s four that placed eighth, and rising junior Kristina Wagner finished 12th in the 2- with partner Elizabeth Fitzhenry.

Yale Trio Ready For 2013 World Rowing Championships
Yale rowers Maddie Lips, Kim Szokol and Kristina Wagner are ready to showcase their skills against international competition. The three are in Linz, Austria, as part of the 20 crews that will represent the United States at the 2013 Under-23 World Rowing Championships, which begin on Wednesday.

Two Yale rowers have earned All-America honors from the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association. Natalie King was named to the first team, while Elisa Hastings earned second team recognition.

Throughout his long tenure as Yale’s head coach, Will Porter has talked about how grueling the NCAA Championship can be. Racing three days straight is challenging both physically and mentally. Now, it has become even more difficult. With the expansion of the field from 16 to 22, spots in the coveted grand final are harder to come by.

Porter Named New England Coach Of Year; 11 Rowers Honored By CRCA
The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association has announced its regional and scholar athlete awards, and Yale is very well represented. Head Coach Will Porter was named the New England Coach of the Year, four rowers earned first team All-New England honors, one was selected to the second team and six were named Scholar Athletes.

Varsity Eight Completes Perfect Weekend; Cruises Past Brown
It doesn’t get much better for the Yale varsity eight. The Bulldogs knocked off two of their biggest rivals in a three-day span. After edging Radcliffe on Saturday, Yale cruised to a nearly nine-second victory over Brown in a rare Monday race on the Housatonic River.

The Bulldogs, ranked 12th in this week’s CRCA/US Rowing national poll, race No. 7 Radcliffe and Northeastern on Saturday on the Charles River and then is back at Gilder Boathouse to host No. 9 Brown on Monday.

No. 7 Princeton Sweeps No. 11 Yale
The spring season is about at the halfway mark so Saturday’s Yale-Princeton regatta was a good gauge of where the two perennial Ivy League title contenders stand heading down the stretch. It was the seventh-ranked Tigers that made the big statement. Princeton won all five races, including the varsity eight to retain the Eisenberg Cup, on the Housatonic River.

Another cup is back in the hands of the Yale women’s crew. The Bulldogs’ varsity eight cruised to a five-second victory Saturday on the Charles River, defeating Clemson, Boston University and Dartmouth. The wins over BU and the Big Green allowed Yale to reclaim the Class of 1985 Cup.

The Bulldogs face Dartmouth and Boston University for the Class of 1985 Cup, but the race will have a twist this year as Clemson will compete as well. Six out of the seven Yale grads that competed at the 2012 Olympic Games shared their experiences in a panel discussion at the Law School Auditorium on Thursday night. Rowers Ashley Brzozowicz ’04, Tess Gerrand ’10, Jamie Redman ’08 and Taylor Ritzel ’10 and sailors Sarah Lihan ’10 and Stuart McNay ’05 took turns reflecting on their time in London, both on and off the water. Trowbridge Visits White House With U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams
Yale assistant women’s crew coach Sarah Trowbridge had one last duty to perform as a 2012 Olympian last Friday, and it was quite memorable. Trowbridge was one of more than 400 members of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic teams that visited the White House, meeting with President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama and participating in a special reception on the South Lawn to celebrate and honor the team’s success at the London Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer.
