Three Yale Crews Opened Season With Victories
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale varsity eight will seek to reclaim the Cayuga Cup when it races Cornell on Saturday on the Cayuga Lake. The Bulldogs edged Penn but fell to Columbia in the opening race of the spring season last week. Racing gets under way a 9 a.m.
"Cornell is very good," said Yale head coach Will Porter. "We will have our hands full this weekend. We just have to do our best to race well."
Thanks to strong performances from the second varsity and varsity four, Yale moved up to No. 10 in this week's CRCA/US Rowing poll. Both crews cruised to easy victories against Penn and Columbia last week.
Cornell, ranked 18th, is racing for the first time this spring. The Big Red is coming off a memorable season last year. Cornell reached the NCAA Championship for the first time in 10 years.
