Bulldogs Reclaim Cayuga Cup With Victory At Cornell

Varsity Eight Rolls To Five-Second Victory

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Yale varsity eight reclaimed the Cayuga Cup with an impressive five-second victory over Cornell on Saturday on the Cayuga Lake Inlet. That win was part of strong day for the Bulldogs, ranked 10th in the nation. Yale also won the second varsity, varsity four and second varsity four races.

"We took a step forward today," said Yale head coach Will Porter. "We had a tough week of practice with the [cold] weather and [rough] water, but we really seemed to enjoy racing today."

The varsity eight, which rebounded from last week's loss to Columbia, finished with a time of 7:03.6. Cornell crossed the line in 7:08.5.

The second varsity rolled to a nearly 10-second victory, finishing in 7:08.6.

The varsity four topped the Big Red 8:09.2 to 8:20, while the second varsity four also won by nearly 10 seconds.

Cornell took the third varsity eight with a time of 7:35.3.

The Big Red, ranked 18th, was an NCAA Championship participant last year.

Yale will race on the Charles River in Boston next weekend, facing Boston University, Dartmouth and Clemson.
