DERBY, Conn. – The Yale women's crew will take a bunch of positive momentum into next Sunday's Ivy League championship. The Bulldogs cruised to easy victories over Atlantic 10 champion Rhode Island in all four races Saturday on the Housatonic River.

"It was good to get back racing after a weekend off for exams," said Yale head coach Will Porter. "We needed to get back on track and continue to build towards the Ivy Championship."

Yale's varsity eight seems to be peaking at just the right time. The Bulldogs extended their winning streak to three straight races with a dominating 24-second victory over the Rams. Yale crossed the line in 6:34.8, while the Rams finished in 6:58.1.

The Bulldogs varsity eight now has a 9-2 record on the season.

In the second varsity eight, Yale had a time of 6:41.9, well ahead of Rhode Island, who came in at 7:06.2. Yale's third varsity also raced and was third in 7:08.9.

The Yale varsity four finished with a time of 7:24.8 to win by nearly 25 seconds.

The second varsity eight and varsity four both finish the regular season with 8-3 overall records.

Yale's second varsity four also had an impressive win, topping the Rams 7:32.0 to 7:56.2.

The Bulldogs hope to see Rhode Island again at the end of the month at the NCAA Championship. The Rams have already earned an automatic berth by winning the Atlantic 10 championship last weekend.

Despite the impressive victories, Porter, ever the perfectionist, sees room for improvement in his crews.

"We raced well today and are starting to come up to speed, but we need to be quicker off the mark, row better through the middle, execute our moves better and finish harder," he said. "There is plenty to work on before we are at our best."

The Ivy League championship is next Sunday on the Cooper River just outside Camden, N.J.
