Porter Named New England Coach Of Year; 11 Rowers Honored By CRCA
Four First Team All-New England Selections For Bulldogs
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association has announced its regional and scholar athlete awards, and Yale is very well represented. Head Coach Will Porter was named the New England Coach of the Year, four rowers earned first team All-New England honors, one was selected to the second team and six were named Scholar Athletes.
Eliza Hastings, Natalie King, Kim Szokol and coxswain Kristen Brownlee were the first team all-region selections, while Claire Tolson was named to the second team. The five were part of the varsity eight that finished with a 9-2 record during the regular season and was second in the Ivy League Championship.
Christine Devlin, Amina Edwards, Kara Freeman, Kristjana Gudmundsson, Maddie Lips and coxswain Margaret Ayers earned Scholar Athlete recognition. Each has a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and sits in one of the three NCAA eligible boats.
Porter, who is in his 14th season at the helm, earned New England Coach of the Year honors for the fifth time in his career. This season, he guided a crew with only four seniors back to the NCAA Championship for the 12th straight year.
The Bulldogs, who are ranked 12th in the nation, are currently in Indianapolis preparing for the NCAAs, which begin on Friday.
