Varsity Eight Shines At Head Of Charles

Bulldogs' Second Fastest Collegiate Crew

BOSTON, Mass. – The Yale women's varsity eight turned in a strong performance at the annual Head of the Charles Regatta. The Bulldogs were the second fastest collegiate crew in the championship eight, finishing with a time of 16:48.112. Only Virginia, from the college ranks, finished ahead of Yale. The Cambridge Boat Club won with a time of 15:59.549. The Bulldogs were fifth overall.

"The varsity eight had a good day," said Yale head coach Will Porter. "There are so many factors involved in doing well on that course. We had a clean run and the athletes rose to the conditions."

Yale's second varsity eight also raced in the championship eight. The Bulldogs were the third fastest collegiate 2v, finishing with a time of 17:56.455, which was 23rd overall.

"Our second eight raced well," Porter said.

In the championship four, Yale placed 14th overall with a time of 19:45.703. USRowing had the top two finishers with times of 18:02.219 and 18:20.317.

"Our four raced hard but had a slight brush up with a USA crew which slowed them down," Porter said.

Yale's final race of the fall will be next weekend at Princeton.

"We have to move on and get ready for the Princeton Chase," Porter said.
