Varsity Eight Racing For Remenham Challenge Cup At Henley

First Race Set For Fourth Of July

Yale's varsity eight concludes it nearly three-week stay in England this weekend by racing for the Remenham Challenge Cup at the famed Henley Royal Regatta on the Thames River. Head Coach Will Porter has been pleased with his team's focus during the trip, which started with the Henley Women's Regatta two weeks ago.

"There has not been much touring around. We have used our time together to row," Porter said. "We have quite a bit of work to do to get back to the NCAAs, and this group knows it and welcomes the work to get back. They have just wanted to row this course. Henley really is a magical place and they want to take it all in."

The Bulldogs will see a familiar foe in the first race, the British National crew that edged Yale in the final of the elite eight at the Henley Women's Regatta. Porter, though, thought there could be a couple of lineup changes for the British crew.

There are also national crews from the Dutch and Australians in the field.

The format is single elimination, and the final is slated for Sunday.

The crew for Yale is from the bow: Colleen Maher, Maddie Lips, Olivia Maclean, Natalie Lapides, Claire Tolson, Nina Demmerle, Madeline Dinse and Abbie Young. The coxswain is Kristen Brownlee.
