During high school, Cara rowed for the Steel City Rowing Club. She competed at Junior World Championships in both 2003 and 2004 in a 2x finishing 12th and 15th respectively. She has won three gold medals at US Rowing National Championships: one in 2002 (2x) and two in 2003 (2x and 4x). At Youth Invites, she won a 2x gold in 2003, a 2x silver in 2004 and a 4x bronze in 2005.
During her freshman season, Cara won a gold in the Youth Eights division at the Head of the Charles. During the spring of 2006, she rowed in the Yale V8, winning a bronze medal at Eastern Sprints and finishing 10th at NCAAs. She also rowed in the V8 at the 2006 HOCR, finishing 5th in the Championship Eights division.
Cara is a member of Ezra Stiles College.
