Derby, CT - In their final home race of the season, the Elis defeated defending national champion Brown and Northeastern for the Nat and Anne Case Cup. The Bulldogs, ranked No. 6 in the USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Coaches poll, won the varsity race with a time of 6:38.8, over two seconds better than the Bears.
Brown won the day's other three races, but Yale put up a strong fight, especially in the second varsity, where it lost by less than one second.
"Brown is the defending national champion and I thought we raced them well," Head Coach Will Porter said. "I'm pleased with the way we rowed today and I think we're gaining speed heading towards the Eastern Sprints."
The Bulldogs have two weeks to prepare for the EAWRC Sprints in Camden, N.J, on May 15.
Varsity: Yale - 6:38.8, Brown - 6:40.9, Northeastern - 6:53.5
2nd Varsity 8: Brown - 6:45.8, Yale - 6:48.6, Northeastern - 7:04.5
3rd Varsity 8: Brown - 7:32.1, Yale - 7:35.6
