Bulldogs Extend Winning Streak to 7 Years
Oct. 7, 2006
SHELTON, Conn. - The Yale women's crew team had a successful day on home waters Saturday, as they won the Collegiate Eights event in the Head of the Housatonic regatta for the seventh consecutive year. In the Collegiate Fours event, the Bulldogs finished second, third and sixth.
Coach Will Porter's crews started competition this morning with the Collegiate Fours event. Northeastern finished in first with a time of 17:08, but Yale's 'A' boat finished close behind in a time of 17:11. With Yale and Northeastern boats rounding out the top six, the Collegiate Fours event set the competitive tone between the Bulldogs and the Huskies for the afternoon's Collegiate Eights.
The Bulldogs kept the Huskies off the top spot in the Collegiate Eights, winning the event in a time of 15:27. The second Yale boat finished in a time of 15:33, but Northeastern beat out Yale's 'B' boat by one second to prevent a Yale sweep of first, second and third. Yale's four boats all finished in the top six.
The Head of the Housatonic served as a practice run in head-style racing before the banner event of the fall rowing calendar, the Head of the Charles in Boston, Mass., which takes place in two weeks.
