SHELTON, Conn. - The defending national champion Yale women's crew team began the 2008-09 campaign with an impressive performance at the 14th annual Head of the Housatonic Saturday, sweeping the top four spots. In addition to the first-place finish of 13:59.082, Yale's other three boats came in at 14:20.209, 14:20.820 and 14:40.075. Fifth place went to the University of Rhode Island (15:03.205).
Yale also won the collegiate fours with a time of 16:23.447. The Bulldogs had two other boats in the top seven, including a second-place finish in 16:35.299 and a seventh-place finish in 17:42.779. The top non-Yale boat was third-place Rhode Island (17:14.747).
The Bulldogs race again at the Head of the Charles next weekend in Cambridge, Mass.
