Bulldogs Ranked No. 1 In CRCA/US Rowing Preseason Poll

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Yale claimed the top spot in the preseason USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Division I Varsity Eight Coaches Poll. The Bulldogs earned 21 of 24 first-place votes to earn the No. 1 ranking. Virginia, with two first-place votes, ranked second, followed by Brown, Southern California and Ohio State. Princeton, which ranked sixth, received the other first-place vote.

Last spring, Yale's varsity eight had its first undefeated season since 1979, culminating with a nearly two-second victory in the Grand Final at the NCAA Championships. The Bulldogs had a 12-0 record in the dual race season and then won the Eastern Sprints crown for the second time in the last three years.

Yale opens the season on Saturday, hosting Penn and Columbia at 9 a.m. on the Housatonic River in Derby, Conn.
