Bulldogs Head to Waltham to Close Fall Competition
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's fencing team will wrap up fall competition this weekend when it travels to Waltham, Mass., for the Dec. 4 Brandeis Invitational.
The Bulldogs will look to build on their performance at last year's performance, when they walked away with a 3-2 record – they beat out Boston College, Brandeis and Haverford, while falling to MIT and St. John's.
Still, the team comes into this weekend's tournament with some momentum from the Nov. 19-20 Garret Open, hosted by Penn State at University Park, Pa.
At that competition, junior captain Robyn Shaffer placed 16th in epee competition, advancing through three rounds to the first elimination bout. The tournament provided a good venue for freshman to make their debuts: Maryne Dijkstra finished 38th and Margaret Kandel ended in 44th in epee competition.
After the Brandeis Invitational, the Bulldogs are off until the New York University Invitational on Jan. 21.
