New Season Filled With Opportunity

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After working its way through a tough fall season, the Yale women's fencing will open its spring season at the Jan. 22 NYU Invitational, held this year at the Coles Sports Center in New York.

The team will look to improve upon the result it achieved at last year's NYU Invitational, when it finished with a 1-4 record. That included a victory against WSU and losses to Notre Dame, Northwestern, Ohio State and NYU.

This year, the Bulldogs will begin competition at 8:00 a.m. Sunday with a bout against Notre Dame. At the conclusion of the first round, the team will line up against Northwestern, Wayne State and NYU, before breaking for lunch. A final match-up against Ohio State after lunch concludes the day's competition.

The NYU Invitational will offer the team a platform upon which to build for the remainder of the season. After Sunday's competition, Yale will return home to compete against Sacred Heart on Jan. 28 and Vassar on Feb. 4.

Those matches will be a prelude to the Ivy League Championships, held at Coxe Cage on Feb. 11-12 and the U.S. Collegiate Squad Championships, again hosted by NYU, on Feb. 26.
