Chance for the Freshman to Shine at National Level
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Freshman Lauren Miller of the Yale women's fencing team will head to Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, for the Mar. 22-25 NCAA National Championship.
Miller will compete in the foil weapons division. She gained her berth at the National Championship after placing ninth place in foil at the Mar. 11 NCAA Northeast Regional Championship at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
It was Miller's first NCAA tournament and what made her accomplishment all the more noteworthy was the fact she returned from injury around two weeks before the competition, according to junior captain Robyn Shaffer.
At the Regional Championship, Miller's record, combined with her overall performance through the dual-meet regular season, qualified her for the National Championship in eighth place among Northeast Region fencers.
Miller is one of four Yalies heading to Columbus for the weekend's NCAA National Championship — three members of the Yale men's fencing team round out the contingent of Bulldogs.
