Bulldogs to Compete at Ivy League Championships
UPDATE: Championships Postponed
PRINCETON, N.J. — Due to anticipated travel problems surrounding Winter Storm Nemo, the 2013 Ivy League Fencing Round-Robins have been postponed for this weekend (Feb. 9 and 10).
With more than 20 inches of snow forecast for the Boston area, travel is anticipated to become difficult throughout New England during the day Friday and well into Saturday. After monitoring the situation throughout the day Wednesday and Thursday, the League decided Thursday night that it was best to postpone the event.
The Ivy League office will be looking at a potential date to reschedule the Round-Robins.
Yale Carries Momentum From Last Weekend
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — On the heels of a strong 3-1 performance last weekend, the Yale women's fencing team will look to capitalize on its momentum at the season-ending Ivy League Championships, hosted by Harvard on Feb. 9-10 in Cambridge, Mass.
Last weekend the Bulldogs put on a strong performance against Drew, Queens and Vassar, which they beat out 24-3, 23-4 and 19-8, respectively. As part of that performance, every Yale fencer, including every substitute and non-starter, contributed at least one win towards the overall bout scores.
That performance will position the team well in advance of the Ivy League Championships. In particular, the Bulldogs will look to improve upon their fifth-place finish at last year's competition in Coxe Cage in New Haven. That result included wins against Brown and Cornell, 14-13 and 16-11, respectively.
On the basis of performances throughout the season and at the Ivy League Championships, selected fencers will advance to the Mar. 10 NCAA Northeast Regional.
