Look to Reverse Last Year's Result
NEW HAVEN, Conn.—The Yale women's fencing team will open spring competition with a Jan. 18 bout against Sacred Heart in Payne Whitney Gymnasium in New Haven, Conn.
In what has become an annual match-up in recent years, the Bulldogs and Pioneers have recorded several close verdicts against each other. Last year, Yale fell in a heartbreaking 14-13 loss to Sacred Heart—with a 5-4 win in epee and 5-4 losses in foil and sabre—while in the previous season the Bulldogs triumphed 15-12. Junior captain Lauren Miller led the way last year with a 3-0 record.
When it enters competition on Saturday, Yale will also look to build on its performance at its only fall tournament, the Dec. 8 Brandeis Invitational. There, the fencers posted a 2-3 record that included wins against Boston College (15-12) and MIT (17-10).
After the Sacred Heart match-up, the Bulldogs will travel to New York to compete at the Jan. 26 NYU Invitational before returning home to host Drew and Vassar for bouts on Feb. 1. The Ivy League Championships will take place the following weekend, hosted by Brown on Feb. 8-9 in Providence, R.I.
Fencing against Sacred Heart will kick off in Payne Whitney at 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
