Will Face Tough Opposition
NEW HAVEN, Conn.—The Yale women's fencing team will travel to Philadelphia this weekend to compete at the Feb. 23 US Collegiate Squad Championships.
Hosted by Penn, the meet will bring together some of the strongest teams on the collegiate circuit for a day of squad competition. Although Yale did not compete at last year's US Collegiate Squad Championships, two years ago the Bulldogs finished in eighth. At that tournament, the epee squad closed in eighth place, the foil team claimed ninth place and the sabre weapon squad finished 13th.
Boston College, Brandeis, Fairleigh Dickinson, Haverford, North Carolina, NYU, Ohio State, Penn, Princeton, Stevens, Temple and Vassar will be competing in this year's competition alongside Yale.
The Bulldogs enter the tournament after a tough seventh-place finish at the Feb. 8-9 Ivy League Championship, which Princeton won for the fifth year in a row. Performance at the Ivy League Championship, as well as throughout the regular season, will determine which fencers advance to the NCAA Northeast Regional, which will take place on Mar. 9 in Wellesley, Mass.
Bouts at the US Collegiate Squad Championships will begin at 9 a.m. and run through 6:30 p.m.
