NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale women's fencing team is headed to University Park, Pa., this weekend for its first competition of the season: Penn State's Garret Open. The women will fence on Saturday.
The event, which does not count towards NCAA rankings, boasts a unique format. Each fencer will compete individually, working her way through multiple rounds of pools—competitors are eliminated at the end of each round—and eventually making it to a direct-elimination bracket of 16.
The Garret Open will mark first years Mary Barnett, India Bhalla-Ladd, Francesca Fedorovsky, Lauren Kim and Camille Pham's debuts onto the collegiate fencing scene. After the Bulldogs warm up at this competition, they will head to the Brandeis Invitational on Dec. 3rd.
