NEW HAVEN, Conn. - In its first action since early December, Yale defeated Vassar, 18-9, Wednesday night at the Payne Whitney Gymnasium Fencing Gallery. The win pushes the Bulldogs' record to 4-3. The sabre squad posted a 7-2 record to set the pace. The foil squad pitched in six victories to the overall tally, while the Yale epeeists fenced to a hard-fought 5-4 victory.
With the win, the Bulldogs, who will host the Ivy League North Competition on Feb. 3, have positioned themselves well for the heart of their season.
Junior Abigail Fraeman nailed down the clinching victory for the Bulldogs' epee squad, her second win of the night. Sophomore Rebecca Moss pitched in two victories of her own. Freshman Kristina Tremonti won once, in her third bout of the night. The freshman from Athens, Greece's win enabled Fraeman's clinching victory.
The Bulldogs will travel to New York, N.Y. for the NYU Invitational Saturday, Jan. 26.
