Yale Takes Down Sacred Heart

Jan. 31, 2007

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Yale dominated Sacred Heart Wednesday at Payne Whitney Gymnasium, sweeping the weapons and winning by a tally of 21-6. Six Bulldogs won all three of their bouts, and the foil squad went 9-0. The team's overall record now stands at 8-4.

The sabre and epee squads both posted 6-3 wins.

As they have all season, the foilists led the Yale attack. Freshman Lidia Gocheva, junior Diana Schawlowski and senior Alisa Mendelsohn were all undefeated on the night. The senior did so without giving up a single touch. Schawlowski did her best to match Mendelsohn, allowing only 3 touches.

Junior Erin Frey, with her three wins, paced Yale's win in the sabre. Freshman Katherine Arden notched a 2-0 record, before fellow rookie Farrah Kimovec stepped in and won a bout of her own.

In the epee, two more Yale fencers posted undefeated marks. They were freshman Rebecca Moss and senior Anne Nguyen. Moss did so with an impressive +13 indicator.

The Bulldogs will take on Vassar on Saturday, February 3rd in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
