Columbia Edges Past Yale 16-11 to give Elis First Loss

Feb. 5, 2005

Sada Jacobson and Diana Schawlowski both went 3-0 in sabre and foil, respectively, but the Bulldogs were beaten by the Columbia Lions to earn their first loss of the season.

Jacobson went 3-0, handing her sister a defeat in the process, while Yale lost sabre 5-4 to the Lions.

In foil, Schawlowski's 3-0 performance, combined with Alisa Mendelsohn's 2-1 day, gave the Elis a 5-4 victory over Columbia.

Yale had a tough going in epee, where Isadora Botwinick and Katherine Burghardt each won a bout as Yale was defeated 7-2.

The Elis travel to Cambridge next weekend to compete against Harvard, Princeton, and Duke.
