Helped Keep Bulldogs Tied for First in Ivy League

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior back Erin Carter (Perkiomenville, Pa.), Yale's captain, was named Ivy League Player of the Week for the third time this season on Tuesday. Carter scored four goals, including one that set a school record, to help the Bulldogs go 2-0 and remain in first place in the Ivy League standings.

Carter had a pair of goals, including the game-winning goal, Friday night in the 3-1 win at Columbia that helped keep Yale tied for first place in the Ivy League. The Lions and Bulldogs both entered Friday's game with 4-1 league records, tied for first with Princeton (the Tigers beat Cornell Sunday, so Princeton and Yale are now tied with 5-1 records). One of Yale's best defensive players, Carter helped Yale hold Columbia's leading scorer, forward Gabby Kozlowski (10 goals entering the game), scoreless with just one shot and zero shots on goal.

Carter's two goals on Sunday in the 8-0 win vs. Holy Cross at Johnson Field including a historic one. Her tally at 11:17 of the first was Yale's 56th goal of the season, breaking the school record. She also helped the Bulldogs get their second shutout of the season, limiting the Crusaders to one shot on goal.

Carter now has a career-best 16 goals this season -- including eight in the last four games -- to lead the team. That is the fifth-best single-season goal total in school history, and she is 10th in the country in goals per game. Her 36 points for the season is fourth best in school history. She is now tied for sixth on Yale's career points list and is sixth on Yale's career goals list (33-7-73).

Carter, the only player to be honored by the league three times this year, also won Player of the Week Sept. 13 and Oct. 11. Yale sophomore midfielder/back Georgia Holland (Stony Brook, N.Y.) won the award Oct. 18.

Yale (10-6, 5-1 Ivy League) hosts Ivy League rival Brown Saturday at 1 p.m. at Johnson Field in the regular season finale. If the Bulldogs beat the Bears, they will earn at least a share of the Ivy League title. Yale's last Ivy title came in 1980.
