Senior Made Smooth Transition from Midfielder to Back
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior midfielder/back Mary Beth Barham (Fairfax, Va.), who is second on the Yale field hockey team in goals and points this season (4-0-8), has been selected to play in the NFHCA Senior Game on Saturday, Nov. 17 (3:00 p.m.) at Old Dominion.
Barham was one of 38 seniors from throughout the country selected for the game. The roster was announced Wednesday by the NFHCA. The only other Ivy Leaguers selected were Columbia's Gabby Kozlowski and Dartmouth's Lisa Masini.
Barham entered this season as one of Yale's top returning midfielders, as she was a second team All-Ivy League selection last season and an honorable mention All-Ivy pick as a freshman. But with graduation losses and injuries depleting the Bulldogs' roster early in the year, she made the switch to back and quickly emerged as a steadying force for Yale's defense. She has started all 16 games, and her two goals against Harvard Sept. 15 helped the Bulldogs beat the Crimson 2-1 -- making her class the first class in school history to go 4-0 against Harvard.
Barham is a member of Jonathan Edwards College. Prior to Yale, she attended W.T. Woodson High.
This year's Senior Game participants will face off against the U.S. Women's National Team as well as against each other in a series of four 25 minute sessions:
