Dear alumnae and friends of Yale Field Hockey,
It's hard to believe another field hockey season is upon us! Before we look ahead to the 2015 season, it's worth celebrating the banner year that was the 2014–2015 fiscal year.
Let's take a look at all we've achieved:
- The Second Annual Alum Dawg Challenge was a success, with our efforts almost reaching our yearly goal of $55K! Team Yellow took home the gold, raising almost $23K. Way to go classes of '76, '82, '86, '92, '96, '02, '06, '12, and '16.
- We achieved our $55K goal by our annual Fete in NYC in February 2015!
- We received gifts from 74 donors across all class decades. This represents 20% of the Yale Field Hockey Association members.
- Your contributions to date have ensured that the Yale Field Hockey program could compete with the best in the Ivy League and in the larger collegiate field hockey community.
- Our final fiscal year fundraising efforts totalled over $64,000.
It wouldn't be Yale Field Hockey without the need for a challenge! The team has a fierce season ahead, with key home games against Harvard (Alumnae Day, September 26 at 1 p.m.), Connecticut, Cornell, and Dartmouth, and a big away game against Princeton. As the Alumnae Association, we need to step up, too. We have raised our annual fundraising goal to $60,000! And we aim to increase our participation to 100% of members of the Yale Field Hockey Association, made up of field hockey alumnae, managers, coaches, family of players and alumnae, and donors to the Association in the last five years. It is imperative that we keep the momentum going to allow Caroline R. Thompson '02 Head Field Hockey Coach Pam Stuper to sustain the excellence of this program. With everyone getting involved and doing her part, we can not only achieve our goal but also set the precedent for years to come.
During 2015–16, Yale Field Hockey seeks to raise money to replace the scoreboard and liven up Johnson Field to celebrate the 1980 and 2011 Ivy League Championships and other memorable moments and players in the history of the program. These new initiatives are on top of the annual fundraising, which is crucial to the overall success of our program.
How does your annual contribution impact the program? Let's take a look:
$5,000 ($1,000/year for 5 years) helps pay for one day of team travel—the total cost of meals, lodging, and transportation for an away game. Yale's appreciation for this gift includes inscribing your name on the coaches' office door in the Yale Field Hockey team's locker room.
$2500 ($500/year for 5 years) provides critical support of expensive recruiting and out-of-region travel costs. Yale's appreciation for this gift includes inscribing your name at the top of one of the beautiful lockers in the Yale Field Hockey team's locker room. For family members looking for that perfect gift to an alumna or current player, this is it. There are just three lockers left!
$1,000 ($200/year for 5 years) supports necessary equipment purchases, such as balls and sticks, cages, uniforms, and other costs. Yale's appreciation includes inscribing your name inside one of the team's lockers, so that every year the current players can be reminded of those teammates who came before them.
$500 ($100/year for 5 years) supports critical computer and software upgrades, video editing software, and online game film exchange.
$100 provides one player's game gear (travel gear, warm-ups, and/or uniform).
$50 provides one player's practice gear (shirt, shorts, and socks).
$25 provides one player's per diem for game day.
Truly, no gift is too small, and every gift counts toward helping the field hockey program achieve its goals. There are multiple ways to show your support, outlined below:
