Yale field hockey suffered a 3-1 loss to American University in College Park, Maryland today. Katie Rivkin recorded the Elis' lone goal in the loss, which dropped the Bulldogs to 1-3-0 and improved American to 5-2-0.
"Overall, we were pleased with the effort we put forth, especially in the second half," said Yale captain Chrissy Hall. "We know what we have to work on, which puts us in a good position because it's things we have control over."
After falling to a 3-0 deficit in the first half, the Elis displayed a much better game in the second. Goaltender Elizabeth Friedlander replaced Kate Crandall in net and did not allow any American goals.
Midway through the second half, Meredith Hudson took a shot during a penalty corner that was tipped by Rivkin up and over the American goaltender to put the Elis on the scoreboard.
But the Bulldogs were unable to chip any further into the American lead, and lost their third game of the season. Sunday, Yale travels to Georgetown for a noon contest.
