Richmond, VA - Three straight goals by Virginia Commonwealth erased an early 1-0 Yale lead, and the Rams went on to down the Bulldogs 4-2. Grace Morris and Heather Orrico scored Yale's goals, while Kate Crandall and Elizabeth Friedlander made two saves each in goal.
Morris opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at 25:09 of the first half, but the Rams (2-4) got a goal from Amanda Kelly at 16:52 and another from Rebecca Bosler just over two minutes later to take the lead. Heather McKannon increased the lead to two goals with a tally at 8:02.
Orrico pulled Yale (1-4) within one by scoring on a penalty corner at 16:20 of the second half, assisted by Harriet Thayer and Beth Raveche. The Bulldogs would finish the day just 1-for-11 on corners.
Nikki Lloyd added an insurance goal, scoring on a penalty corner for VCU eight minutes later. A trio of Ram goalkeepers - Becca Leuzzi (35 minutes, 7 saves), Brittay Lovullo (8:46, 2) and Laura Baker (26:14, 1) combined to deny the Bulldogs, who outshot VCU 22-12.
Yale returns home to face Cornell Friday at 7 p.m.
